In growing up people around us either saw us truly, as we were, or they just didn’t ‘get us’. Many of us felt unseen, unloved and not enough. We felt measured and were found wanting. This has profoundly affected the way we see ourselves today. Our fear of not being ‘OK’ to those around us makes us hide our real and precious selves.
How much do I trust and believe in myself?
This issue is of great importance because the way I receive myself is the way I accept and receive others now. Our Creator God ‘gets us’. He sees us, and accepts us, completely, ‘weeds’ and all. He wants us to be who He made us to be. He sees our infinite worth, and knows that we are more than enough.
Re-learning to love our self
In marriage, two people take the risk of committing to each other for the rest of their lives. In a similar way each of us need to be committed to loving our self in an ongoing way. This is a conscious choice to walk the road of learning – of re-learning – to love, trust, and believe in our true self. Fortunately we don’t journey alone in this. As we learn to receive God’s ‘Yes’ (affirmation) it reduces our need for external affirmation which is often sought in the wrong places and can never replace God’s unconditional love.
